V1 Award in Conducting Internal Quality Assurance of the Assessment Process

What is the aim of the Award?

The V1 Award is aimed at occupationally competent individuals who wish to verify assessments made by Assessors who are assessing learners working to achieve National Vocational Qualifications. The role of the Internal Verifier is essential as the Internal Verifier ensures the assessment carried out by others meets the agreed national standards and requirements of the Awarding Bodies.

Are there entry requirements?

The V1 Award is designed for those ensuring the quality of assessment activities of Assessors. To undertake the V1 Award you will need to have occupational competence as determined by the sector and have responsibility for at least 2 NVQ Assessors. It is anticipated that individuals accessing the Award should hold the A1 (or its equivalent). An initial assessment will be undertaken before you enter the Award. How will I achieve the Award and how is it delivered?

The Award will be delivered in a number of ways, including workshops and self-study, and is outlined below.

A 2-day workshop which requires some specific pre-work with your learners and sets out the following:

  • an overview of NVQs
  • the role of the internal verifier and definition of verification
  • outline of verification strategy
  • identification of assessor needs and support
  • allocation of learners to assessors
  • undertaking observations of assessor practice
  • feedback skills
  • liaison with external verifier
  • internal quality assurance

You will then have the opportunity to put into practice all you have learned during the following 6-weeks before attending:

A 1-day workshop to review your progress, share experiences, discuss best practice and undertake preparation for your assessment plan.

The plan will be agreed between you and your ENTO Direct Assessor who will provide ongoing support throughout the process through on-line and telephone support to ascertain progress with activity in the plan and give support as appropriate.


Finally

A visit, by your ENTO Direct Assessor, will take place at a place of work where your assessors and learners are based, to review, perform observation and verify your competence and knowledge of co-ordination of the assessment process.

Providing all competences are met the Assessor will apply for certification from the Awarding Body.

What does the V1 Award give me?

On successful completion you will have achieved the Certificate in Conducting Quality Assurance of the Assessment Process (V1 - Vocational Assessor Award). This Award qualifies you to internally verify NVQ and NVQ related courses. This unit also contributes towards NVQs in the following Level 4 qualifications, as an optional Unit:

  • Learning and Development
  • Management of Learning and Development Provision and
  • Co-ordination of Learning and Development Provision

The V1 qualification is transferable into any area of employment, and is seen as one of the most senior qualifications within vocational qualifications
