Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) |
|
Who needs to be qualified to teach? From September 2007, all new entrants to teaching in the FE sector will be required to complete a new award which will prepare them to teach. This new level 3 qualification is called Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS for short.) PTLLS will be mandatory for any new teacher who teaches publicly funded provision and by 2010 all those in receipt of government funding who teach will have to be qualified. What is the definition of a “teacher”?A teacher is any trainer, assessor, or member of staff who delivers learning to one or more learners. This can be in a classroom or at the employers’ premises and includes the running of group inductions or the provision of underpinning knowledge for NVQs. If I am an assessor who also teaches and I have my A1, do I still need to do PTLLS?Yes! (unless you have an alternative teaching qualification). The A1 is an assessor’s award; it does not qualify people to teach. What is PTLLS?It is a one unit, level 3 qualification designed to provide…
PTLLS is only available to learners of 19 and over. How is ENTO Direct providing PTLLS?ENTO Direct is applying the same “Back to Basics” philosophy and achievement guarantee to PTLLS as we do with our current qualifications. 30 hours training is provided over a period of 5 days, spaced over a number of weeks. This allows those on the course to go back to work and apply practically the skills and knowledge taught. This can then be assessed to allow the award to be achieved in practical way, whilst developing your ability to teach. There are no written academic assignments in the achievement of this award with ENTO Direct. You will demonstrate your learning and knowledge through your practice at work, a reflective journal and through a professional discussion. This discussion will allow you to review with your ENTO Direct tutor, the progress and competence you have demonstrated thus meeting the requirements of the qualification. ENTO Direct believe we are unique in this approach. By applying what you learn, as you learn it, you can develop and demonstrate your knowledge and ability without the need to spend time writing lengthy academic assignments. When is the first course running? How do I find out more?Courses begin in early 2008 and places are limited.
